Our Mission

The Virginia Master Naturalist Program is a state wide corps of volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated  to the   beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas within their communities.  Interested Virginians become Master Naturalist through training and volunteer service.

Mike Hayslett our friend and advanced instructor from Sweet Briar College, during an advance training class at Beagle Ridge in 2009, discovered and documented the First Recorded Jefferson Salamander in Wythe County

Opening Spring 2010
Beagle Ridge Herb Farm and  Environmental Education Center has constructed a Butterfly House, an enclosure you can walk through and study butterflies in their habitat.

Salamander eggs were sited March 13th  in the vernal pool at Beagle Ridge, only a few days after snow melt

Hillsville Elementary School
Rain Garden.  David Richert along with BR and NRV Master Naturalist have provided the design and labor to create the 1st of several rain gardens for the Carroll County school and children.
